Lync 2013: How to force the client to download the address book immediately.

Issue

How to force the Lync 2013 client to download the address book immediately. 

Problem Statement

Users complaining that they are unable to search contacts in the Lync 2013 client.

Resolution

You can follow the steps below to download the address book:

1. Exit the Lync 2013 client. (Check in Task Manager and end Lync.exe).

2. Go to the below location and delete the user sip profile. For Windows 7: %Userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\sip_Username@domain.com For Windows XP Pro: %Userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Communicator\sip_username@domain.com Where "Userprofile" is the affected user name.

If the address book is not downloaded and contact search is not working, do the following:

1. Log on to the affected computer.

2. Exit the Lync 2013 client from Task Manager end process (lync.exe).

3. Open Command Prompt, enter below command and press Enter. **** reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync /v GalDownloadInitialDelay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

4. Now open Lync 2013 client and log in to it.

5. Check the address book location and see the address files.
