Tutorial: Azure AD Integration with SumTotal Central

The objective of this tutorial is to show how to set up single sign-on between Azure Active Directory (AAD) and SumTotal Central.

The scenario outlined in this tutorial assumes that you already have the following items:

After completing this tutorial, the AAD users to whom you have assign SumTotal Central access will be able to single sign into the application at your SumTotal Central company site (service provider initiated sign on), or using the AAD Access Panel.

 

 


Adding SumTotal Central to your directory

This section outlines how to add SumTotal Central as an integrated application in Azure Active Directory.

To enable the application integration for SumTotal Central:

  1. In the Azure Management Portal, on the left navigation pane, click Active Directory.
  2. From the Directory list, select the directory for which you want to enable directory integration.
  3. To open the applications view, in the directory view, click Applications in the top menu.
  4. To open the Application Gallery, click Add, and then click Add an application from the gallery.
  5. In the search box, type SumTotalCentral.
  6. In the results pane, select SumTotalCentral, and then click Complete to add the application.

Configuring Single Sign-On

This section outlines how to enable users to authenticate to SumTotal Central with their account in Azure Active Directory, using federation based on the SAML protocol.

To configure single sign-on, perform the following steps:

    1. After adding SumTotal Central in the Windows Azure management portal, click Configure Single Sign-On.
    2. In the Configure App URL screen, enter the URL where users will sign into your SumTotal Central application. This is your SumTotal Central tenant URL (example: https://company.SumTotal Central.com), which you will later configure to redirect to the Azure AD sign-in page. Once finished, click Next. Leave this dialog open while completing the next steps.
    3. In a different web browser window, log into your SumTotal Central company site as an administrator.
    4. Configure the SAML integration as indicated by SumTotal Central, using the values presented in the Azure management portal.
    5. In the browser window showing the Azure management portal, click Save when completed.

Assigning users to SumTotal Central

To display an application tile for SumTotal Central on the Access Panel of a provisioned AAD user, you need to assign the user to the app in the Azure AD management portal.

To assign users to SumTotal Central:

  1. In the Azure management portal, on the application page for SumTotal Central, click Assign users.
  2. In list of users, select the users you want to assign.
  3. In the page footer, click the Assign button.

These users will also be able to single sign into SumTotal Central at your SumTotal Central company site.
