Troubleshooting: Failed to Enable Virtual Machine Protection in Recovery Site

Problem

Failed trying to enable protection of virtual machines, with the following error:

Unprotected - Not Applicable.

The activities bar on the Microsoft Azure portal shows the error.

The details of the activities on Jobs tab displays the error code:

Protection couldn't be enabled for the virtual machine. (Error code: 70002)
Possible causes: The operating system of the virtual machine OS isn't supported. The operation system must be Windows (Windows Server 2008 R2 and later versions) or Linux.
Recommendation: Configure the operating system settings in the virtual machine properties in the VMM console, and retry the operation.

Possible causes: The virtual machine must have exactly one disk specified as the operating system disk.
Recommendation: Configure only one disk to contain the operating system for the virtual machine in the virtual machine properties in the VMM console, and retry the operation.

Cause

 
In the virtual machine properties in Virtual Machine Manager does not possess any disk marked as installed operating system.

Solution

Enter on virtual machine properties in Virtual Machine ManagerHardware Configuration session locate the disk where the operating system is installed and select the option Contains the operating system for the virtual machine.
