Windows 8.1 Troubleshooting: library-ms is No Longer Working

In this problem, if a user tries to open Picture or Document Library he gets the following error:

"Pictures.library-ms is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected."

OR

"Documents.library-ms is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected."

To fix this problem go through the following steps:

  1. Open File Explorer.

  1. You will find Libraries present in the left pane.

  2. Locate the corresponding library e.g. Pictures or Documents under the Library.

  3. Right-click Pictures or Documents and select Delete.

  4. Right-click Libraries and select Restore default libraries.

[Note: Deleting a library does not delete the contents of the included folders.]
