How to make searches sensitive to diacritical marks in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

You can control whether searches are sensitive to diacritical marks. A diacritical mark is a symbol added to a letter to alter the pronunciation or meaning of a character or group of characters. For example, in English, the title (dot) on the letter i is not a diacritical mark, but rather is part of the letter itself. Furthermore, a mark may be a diacritic in one language but not in another — for example, in Catalan, Portuguese, and Spanish, u and ü are considered to be the same character, while in German, Estonian, Hungarian, Turkish, and Azeri, they are considered to be separate characters. Although Office SharePoint Server 2007 supports diacritics-sensitive searches, this feature is off by default. You can change this setting by using the Stsadm command-line tool. The Stsadm command is:

STSADM -o osearchdiacriticsensitive -ssp <ssp name> [-setstatus <True|False>] [-noreset] [-force]
