Windows 8.1 Troubleshooting: How To Rebuild Windows Media Center Database

Overview

If the Windows Media Center data store gets corrupted, Windows Media Center will not work properly and it may crash. So if there is a corrupted Media Center data store, then here is a fix:

Steps

  1. Open Windows 8.1 Pro in Desktop view.

  2. Make sure Windows Media Center (WMC) is closed.

  3. Click on File Explorer icon present in the Taskbar.

  4. Click View

  5. Click Options.

  6. Click View under Folder Options.

  7. Select Show hidden files, folders and drives

  8. .Click OK/Apply.

  9. Locate C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome

  10. Locate mcepg database (.db) file

  11. Right-clickon mcepgg database (.db) file and delete.

  12. Reboot and restart WMC.
