To install

The DocAve Software Platform consists of two components: DocAve Manager, which MUST BE INSTALLED FIRST, and DocAve Agent (both components must be installed in order to run the application). Please locate the directory you have saved the zip files and unzip the downloaded files. Find the executable SETUP.exe within each Manager and Agent module and install the Manager and then the Agent.

Adding DocAve 6 to your Anti-Virus Exclusion List

Not in our corporate but in some cases, your anti-virus software may negatively impact the performance of certain DocAve jobs. If you notice slow data transfer rates, or if you simply want to remove your anti-virus software from the job performance equation altogether, add the …\AvePoint\DocAve6 directory to your Anti-Virus software’s exclusion list. This directory is the parent directory for all DocAve 6 executable files.

Installation Guide – Step by Step

When you’ve downloaded the Installation files of AvePoint hit on the Setup to begin the Installation.

  • Name: Gokan Ozcifci
  • Organization: Corp.Pegasus

At the next screen you’ll receive the License Agreement for DocAve. You have to hit I accept the terms in the license agreement before continuing.

The default location is as following. You can change this deepening you governance at your corporate. As we are in a test environment, I’ll leave this by default.

This screen is very important. You can choose between a complete install or Advanced install. The easiest way is to choose the complete installation. But if you want you can exclude on of the following AvePoint Services:

  • Control Service: Manages All DocAve operations. All agent machines will use the control service port and address to communicate with the manager.
    • Has to be operational, otherwise no communication
    • Has to be running on ALL the servers where the Agent is running
    • Media Center: Manages all data storage for the DocAve Platform
    • Report Center: Manages all SharePoint data collection and management for the DocAve Report Center.

To be honest, I did not test the advanced option but my little finger says me that without the Control Service and Media Service the DocAve could not be 100% operational.

Like any other software AvePoint DocAve also includes an Installation Rule Scanning. This will check multiple rules and aware you if there is any problem.

As I’m testing on a DEV Server I have limited Physical Memory. Not a big issue because I can continue and it’s only a warning.

On the Control Service Configuration screen we have to create an IIS Web Site and an Application Pool.

  • Control Service Host: The name of you Server
  • IIS Website Site Settings
    • Create a new IIS Website: DocAve6 or something else
    • Web Site Port: 14000 (By Default, please don’t change it)
    • Application Pool Settings
      • Username: Corp.PEGASUS_AvePoint
      • Password: **********

http://gokanx.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/docave6_51.png?w=600&h=481

On the next screen DocAve 6 is going to ask all the settings about the Control Database. Be sure that you are selecting a MS SQL Database with a correct database name. The User that is going to create the Database should have DBCreator and SecurityAdmin rights on the Database Server.

DocAve should warn you that the Database does not exist and that this will be created. Hit Yes to confirm the settings.

DocAve 6 is going to ask a Passphrase like SharePoint Server. You’ll need this Passphrase when installing Agents on the SharePoint Servers to join them at the AvePoint Park. (Same principles like SharePoint Server).

http://gokanx.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/docave6_7.png?w=600&h=486

On the Media Service Configuration screen you’ll have to insert the Media Service Host name. The ports are already filled by the assistant. This service can turn on the same host where your DocAve Manager is running.

Be also sure that if you’re AvePoint DocAve 6 is in a DMZ or Protected zone that the ports 14001 and 14002 are enabled on the Firewall.

http://gokanx.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/docave6_8.png?w=600&h=486

Same rule as the Report Service Configuration. Hit the host name where the Manager is running on the Report Service Host. The Port should be automatically by the wizard.

http://gokanx.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/docave6_9.png?w=600&h=486

14000 Web Site Port DocAve Control Server
14001 Media Service Port DocAve Media Server
14002 Media Service Data Port DocAve Media Server
14003 Report Service Port DocAve Report Server
14004 DocAve Agent Port DocAve Agent Server

Use the Built-in Certificate to begin the installation.

http://gokanx.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/docave6_22.png?w=600&h=485

The installation will finally begin. It will potently take around the 15 minutes to terminate the action.

  • Password: admin
