Windows 8: How to Search for Large Files
This article will start with basic instructions and then add more information and clarification if/when the community needs it.
How to search for large files in Windows 8
In the search bar (for power users):
- Open File Explorer (formerly called Windows Explorer).
- In the search bar on the right, type "size:"
- A drop-down menu appears with various size options: Empty, Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, Huge, and Gigantic (with bytes sizes next to each word)
- Click on the one you want, or just type out the phrase, such as "size:gigantic".
- You get a list of files in that size.
As an alternative, you can use the ribbon menu:
- Open File Explorer (formerly called Windows Explorer).
- Click in the Search bar.
- The Search tab opens in your ribbon menu.
- Click the Search tab to see the ribbon (unless it's already pinned open).
- Click an option in the Size dropdown in the Refine area.
- The text appears in the search box.
- I think they have the text appear in order to teach you that you can just type it next time.
