SharePoint 2013 Troubleshooting: Unable to Upload Multiple Documents Using Windows Explorer

Problem

Recently I ran into a problem where I couldn't upload multiple files in a document library of SharePoint 2013 online site using Windows Explorer. When I was clicking on the link 'Upload files using Windows Explorer instead' from the 'Upload document' ribbon control, I was getting below error message: We're having a problem opening this location in File Explorer. Add this web site to your Trusted Sites list and try again.

My environment is: - Windows 7 and  IE 8 32-bit

Solution

I applied below steps and it worked

  1. Add the site to the Trusted zone of Internet Explorer.
  2. Set the Startup Type of the service "WebClient" as "Automatic" and then restart this service. We've to make sure that this service is in "Started" mode.
  3. Logout from your Office 365 site and close all your browsers.
  4. Re-login to your Office 365 site and while logging-on, make sure that the checkbox "Keep me signed in" is checked.

After applying the above steps, I was able to use Windows Explorer (from the document library's Upload document ribbon control).
