After Installing KB2251419, Microsoft Word 2007 application is crashing

We recently released a security update KB2251419.

MS10-056: Description of the security update for Word 2007: August 10, 2010

After installing this security patch, our customers are complaining about Word 2007 application is crashing.

This issue happens when you have an “ActiveX control” in Microsoft Word Template and you are creating new document based on that Word Template.

Currently this issue is under investigation.

The only workaround at this point we have for this issue is to remove ActiveX control from your Word Template.

We do not recommend uninstalling security update KB2251419.

UPDATE about this issue

We have fix available for this issue now. This fix can be downloaded from following link

Hi Microsoft-Guys Several of our Word-Tools crash because of this patch. All of our DOTM-tools having selectboxes (which are filled with data at start time) in the templates crash at start / at creating new document. But already created DOCX-douments based on the templates that crash by creating new documents run fine (also the selectboxes getting the code from the same DOTM work as they should). We can provide you with code examples if this helps. Please release a new patch asap, we and our customers (not small-caps!) are definitely in trouble! Regards, Chris

Hi Navdeep Do you have any information about when this will approx. be released? I spoke to the IT dept. of one of our customers today and they have been told that the release will only be distributed in december. This would give us HUGE problems, customers cannot work without our apps for a long time! Maybe there aer plans for a private release very early, next 1-2 weeks? Regards Chris

Also uninstalling security updates is not recommended by Microsoft, we uninstalled KB 2251419 and the problem was resolved.  Whatever potential security issue is fixed by this update is far less important to our customer than their business workflow.

I meant to say "Although uninstalling security updates is not recommended by Microsoft..."

I don't have credits to contact Microsoft Support  (cost for support request in Europe would be $500.--) but I need this fix so much. Can you please provide a link where I can download it?
