Microsoft Point of Service (POS) for .NET is a set of .NET class libraries that allows software developers and OEMs to write .NET applications for retail and hospitality that work across a wide variety of retail peripherals. A user running a .NET application using POS for .NET can choose from among many retail peripherals — from many different peripheral manufacturers — knowing the .NET application will work as expected.

POS for .NET v1.14 is the latest implementation, providing full compatibility with Unified POS 1.14 specification and delivering improved customer experiences, such as the following:

  • Enabling training mode, which allows sales associates in training to try using chip and pin peripherals without impacting actual transactions
  • Extending support to a larger set of peripherals by providing more symbols for POS printers and barcode scanners
  • Providing fiscal printer data, which now resides on the printer, in several different formats, making it easier to review daily transactions

POS for .NET v1.14 adds POS objects for retail peripherals — such as smartcards, motion sensors and fiscal printers — to support for a larger set of peripherals, so developers can spend less time writing code to create POS objects and more time building and delivering differentiated experiences.

Furthermore, POS for .NET v1.14 now supports .NET 4.0, building on an updated security model and making it easier for customers to maintain PCI compliance.

Last but not least, the POS for .NET v1.14 installer is now more interoperable with IT tools, specifically supporting scripting in deployment scenarios.

We are excited to make POS for .NET v1.14 available today. Download POS for .NET v1.14 and develop on it now! For more information and to share your feedback, visit our POS for .NET forum, and read more about Microsoft in retail on the Windows Embedded retail page.
