Introducing the Visual Studio ALM Rangers – Ted Malone

Who you are?   

Ted Malone – I am a Software Engineering Director for EMC Corporation, working as part of the Ionix Business Unit and the Storage Resource Management team to deliver solutions for infrastructure intelligence. I am the Product Owner of “Ionix Infrastructure Insight”, which is used by large organizations to gain insight into the performance, capacity, compliance and business impact of their storage environment.

What makes you “tick”?

I have a strong passion for demonstrating that technology and business are equal partners and for building solutions that solve real problems. I am also very committed to the agile mindset, and spend a fair portion of my time demonstrating how the agile mindset can be used to improve more than just software development processes. I spend as much of my spare time as possible on my Harley, enjoying the Colorado (and surrounding states) scenery.

Where is the place you call home?

Colorado is home, even though I’m originally from Southern California (Ventura County), I’ve landed in Colorado and have never felt more “at home” anywhere else.

Why are you active in the Rangers program?

I believe the ALM Rangers Program is the best way to evangelize the use of technology to solve business problems. Being involved in Ranger Projects is all about guiding someone to a solution, as opposed to simply doing the work. Very much akin to the “Teach a man to fish” mentality.

What is the best Rangers project you worked in and why?

My favorite Rangers project has been the Team Foundation Server virtualization guidance. I learned a lot from that project, both from the perspective of just how different virtualized environments are, as well as the challenges that customers face once they do embrace the virtual challenge. The Rangers guidance does a great job of distilling the problems faced, and provides concrete guidance on just exactly how to address the issues.
