Introducing the Visual Studio ALM Rangers – Calvin Clark

This post is part of an ongoing series of Rangers introductions. SeeRanger Index (Who is Who?)for more details.

Who you are?WP_20140216_007
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my wonderful wife and a 5-year-old daughter who amazes me every day.  In college I studied physics, and got into software that way---I still maintain a strong interest in scientific computing, which took my on some fascinating detours with customers large and small, from the secretive to the extremely open.  I enjoy playing Go and snowboarding, the latter being the source of the non-mugshot photo included.

What makes you “tick”?
I am motivated by significance, and enjoy projects that have a chance to make a difference in people’s lives.

Where you live?
Menlo Park, CA specifically.  Before then, I lived in the Seattle and Boston areas, and I grew up in rural Maine and New Hampshire.

Why are you active in the Rangers program?
The quality of the output is top-notch and it’s useful with talking to customers and opening their minds about what’s possible.  The members are the best I’ve ever met in the field, so the community is vital.

What is the best Rangers project you worked in and why?
I’m new, so I’ve consumed more than contributed, but aspire to change that soon.  My favorite is the Version Control Guide.  It can be used to discuss almost any release strategy clearly.  I’m also fond of the Microsoft Fakes content.
