The Future of Photography has Arrived

Imagine being able to share the places and things you love with others and to do so using the cinematic quality of a movie, the control of a video game, and the mind-blowing detail of the real world. With nothing more than a bunch of photos, Photosynth allows you to do just that and creates an amazing new experience.

Photosynth allows you to transform your everyday digital photos into an immersing 360-degree, three-dimensional experience and to do it with ease!! Anyone who views a Photosynth creation gets the opportunity to experience and view it as if they were there interrogating every detail. This amazing tool will take you far beyond how you now view, experience and share pictures.

So how does it work?

It has the ability to reconstruct the scene or object from a bunch of flat photographs, using computer vision techniques to examine the images for similarities to each other. This information is then used to estimate both the shape of the subject and the vantage point from which the photos were taken. The space is then recreated and used as a canvas to display and navigate, not only through the photos but also through the various wonders of the world in 3D just as if you were, for example, walking into the Taj Mahal.

After being officially unveiled to the media and, launched on 21st August 2008 at the London Eye, media coverage for the Photosynth has been outstanding. Taking full advantage of the huge hype already surrounding the tool before the official launch, Photosyth has proved hugely popular wowing the media and end users alike with its exciting features and user benefits, “Microsoft finally launches Photosynth - a world of 3D picture fun!!! – Techdigest”
