rss feeds

Hmmm, I tried to add a RSS feed last night and it didn't seem to work like I thought it would.  Can someone point me to a good place to read up on how to use RSS feeds?

    where are you trying to "use" the rss feed...generally they are consumed by a reader/aggregator like RSS Bandit, FeedDemon, Bloglines, Newsgater, etc.

    tim: I was just trying to see how to use them...so far, as much as I can tell, it's an easy way to get updates to a website a person might want to monitor...

    I tried making a link for a couple different people's blogs but they just show the XML, so I'm not sure if that's by design or if I'm doing something wrong.

    I guess I'me expecting to only see recent updates...
