graphics are a horse of a different color...

*sigh*  again I have been faced with how little I really know about the coding world.

I'm starting to get really really comfortable on how to code up backends for pretty much anything...databases, websites, etc...  However gui and graphics...not so much.

I'm lucky enough to have my son over the summer and I wanted to do something special for him while he's here, so I told him that I was going to re-design this clunky hero creation program that he had gotten for one of his birthday's, thinking it would be pretty easy as all I really needed to learn was how to add the graphics in.  Well, I got to the point where I needed to start adding in the graphics and I can see why people go to college for several years for this kind of thing.  What I wanted was to have 3D images rotating around and to add layers of textures onto some kind of 3D wireframe as the user selects costumes, powers, size of the hero, etc... however it would take me a lot longer than just this summer to figure it out.  I'll eventually figure it out and finish this for him, it just won't be for the end of the summer like I was hoping...

Just trying to think of something I can do with my coding skills that will be cool to an 8 year old.  :)  Anyone have any suggestions?

    Managed DX is your friend.

Of course if your lazy perhaps you can accomplish some basic tasks (with very little coding) by using Avalon. I guess it depends on exactly what kind of 3D you need.
