Updates to the Demonstrate IPv6 TLG and addressing guidelines for the Contoso Corporation

Hey TLG fans,

I just updated the Demonstrate IPv6 TLG, its associated extensions (DHCPv6, IPv6-only), and the IPv6-only mini-module to use the 2001:db8::/64 prefix for the Corpnet subnet, rather than 2001:db8:0:1::/64.

This change was made so that IPv4 and IPv6 addressing for the sites and subnets of the Contoso Corporation are consistent, which is based on the following:

  • For IPv4 addresses, the prefixes assigned to subnets of the Contoso Corporation have the following structure: 10.site.subnet.0/24. For addressing simplicity for configurations that require only the Corpnet subnet, the initial site and subnet numbers are 0 and and subsequent sites and subnets start with 2. Therefore, the IPv4 prefix for the Corpnet subnet (the initial subnet in the initial site) is 10.0.0.0/24. The Corpnet2 subnet in the initial site, as used in the Demonstrate IPv6 TLG, is the second subnet in the initial site and assigned the IPv4 prefix 10.0.2.0/24.
  • For IPv6 addresses, the prefixes assigned to subnets of the Contoso Corporation have the following structure: 2001:db8:site.subnet::/64. Therefore, the IPv6 prefix for the Corpnet subnet (the initial subnet in the initial site) is 2001:db8::/64. The Corpnet2 subnet in the initial site, as used in the Demonstrate IPv6 TLG, is the second subnet in the initial site and assigned the IPv6 prefix 2001:db8:0:2::/64.

If you are creating TLGs with additional sites for the Contoso Corporation, please use these addressing guidelines.

Keep on testing...
