Updated Visual Studio 2010 and MSDN Licensing White Paper

 

Summary

On April 1, 2012, licensing changes for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server CALs were put into place that had previously been announced and Visual Studio Team Explorer Everywhere was removed from price lists.  As a result, the Visual Studio 2010 and MSDN licensing white paper has been updated to incorporate these changes plus to add clarity in a number of other areas.

  • Visual Studio Team Explorer Everywhere 2010 made available as a free download and removed from price lists.
  • Client Access Licensing (CAL) changes for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010:

  o Access to Visual Studio Team Foundation Server reports no longer requires a Team Foundation Server CAL.

  o Use of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server via System Center Operations Manager no longer requires a Visual Studio Team Foundation Server CAL.

  • Addition of Monitoring and Managing Development and Testing Environments section.
  • Addition of Windows Azure for MSDN subscribers section.
  • Clarifications on use of IntelliTrace.
  • Significant reorganization and clarifications of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010 licensing section.
  • Minor clarifications in MSDN licensing
