CSWP group cache is available on-premises as well

Hi,

In March 2014 we announced a new group cache for the Content Search Web Part (CSWP) in SharePoint Online. Since then we've seen a steady rise in the usage of the CSWP in SharePoint Online, both with and without this cache configured.

We've also seen that this cache does fit its purpose: quickly returning the same results to many users in a company in high-load situations for Intranets. So, if you are developing an Intranet solution with SharePoint online, consider using the CSWP with the group cache.

Customers with on-premises SharePoint Intranets have told us that they too want this option. So, now that the feature has had some bake-time in SharePoint online we've just checked it in for on-premises usage as well .

So, the CSWP group cache is part of the SharePoint 2013 September 2014 Cumulative Update (CU). (download link)

As before, this feature works with AD groups and claims, not SharePoint groups.
