SharePoint Conference 2012 Sessions – Nov 12-15
Wow, I can’t believe it’s been just over a year since the last SPC, and as we close in on the SharePoint Conference (SPC) some interesting things are a brewing.
You know that I’ve been mainly addressing this space of SharePoint and Windows Azure convergence over the past little while. And of late have been spending much more time in the Cloud space here in MCS—and the topic of SharePoint and Windows Azure is heating up with the newly released Cloud-hosted app models. So, that begs the question of what to expect over the next couple of weeks as we lead into and out of SPC 2012. To begin with, there are a few areas I’ll be covering at SPC that pertain to the above theme and also address newcomers to the SP platform. That said, the following are what I’ll be delivering at SPC.
For the SharePoint newcomer…
For those that are completely new to the platform, here is an intro session just for you. Framed around SP 2013, this session specifically addresses the fundamentals, programmability options, common tasks, and so on. I’ll also have a number of tips to help you as you get underway. Title: “I want to be a SharePoint Developer, But Don’t Know Where to Get Started” Level: 100 Date/Time: Monday, November 12, 3:45-5:00pm Location: Jasmine ABEF Description: SharePoint is a large and powerful platform and understanding where to get started can be challenging. In this session, we'll assume that you're an aspiring SharePoint developer and will walk you through the fundamental building blocks for how to move from zero to hero. Specific topics in this session will include core programming skills, investing in the right areas to optimize your learning curve, free resources and tools to help you get started, tips and tricks to get you on your way, and more. For the SharePoint developer who wants to learn about Windows Azure…
For those that are SharePoint developers and are now needing to understand the world of Windows Azure better, here is a session for you. In this session, I’ll take the perspective of cherry-picking a few fundamental areas of Windows Azure and explain how they apply to SharePoint. Specific areas will cover using Windows Azure Web Sites, Web APIs, SQL Database, MVC4, and so on, in your SharePoint applications. We’ll also look at the different cloud-hosted models (i.e. Autohosted and Provider-hosted) and talk in depth about where Windows Azure fits in, limitations, how you can leverage CSOM, OData, and OAuth within cross-domain apps to make the natively supported connection between SharePoint and Windows Azure. Sounds fun, right!!! Here are the deets: Title: “Windows Azure Basics for the SharePoint Developer” Level: 300 Date/Time: Tuesday, November 13, 3:15-4:30pm Location: South Seas Ballroom E Description: If you are a Developer using SharePoint today, you may be evaluating Public Cloud services and how to take advantage of Cloud to build new apps or extend existing ones. Windows Azure is an open cloud platform that enables you to quickly build, deploy and manage applications across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. You can build applications using any language, tool or framework. Join us in this Session learn how you can use SharePoint and Windows Azure together – we’ll provide guidance and practical recommendations in support of optimizing your development experience. For the SharePoint developer who really wants to learn about Windows Azure…
Paul Stubbs and I are running a post-con workshop where we’ll spend 3 hours running through the aforementioned integration in much greater detail. We’ll cover off on a range of topics including:
We’re planning on walking through quite a few things that will help you, so hoping you can attend! Speakers: Steve Fox, Paul Stubbs Title: “Building SharePoint 2013 Apps using Windows Azure” Level: 300 Date: Thursday, November 15 Time: 2:00pm – 5:00pm Description: SharePoint 2013 introduces a Cloud App Model that enables you to build apps for SharePoint by using familiar tools and a rich set of features. Apps for SharePoint are self-contained pieces of functionality that extend the capabilities of a SharePoint website. These apps can be hosted in Windows Azure and leverage all of the features of Windows Azure such as Azure SQL databases. You will learn to use the client side object model (CSOM) and SharePoint REST APIs to securely talk back from Windows Azure to SharePoint using OAuth 2.0. This is a must see session for deeply understanding how to build the next generation of SharePoint apps. To register, sign up here. |
As we close in and get to SPC, I’ll post more on the above topics including decks, code samples, links to cool sessions, embarrassing photos (okay, maybe not), and other interesting happenings throughout the week.
Will see you there!
