Inside the PST

As Paul Thurrott notes, we just announced that we’re documenting the PST file structure. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll be writing a standalone parser/viewer/validator, but I’m sure I’ll be adding some interesting stuff to MFCMAPI. I’ll let you know when I know more.

It is an exciting era, Microsoft is starting to embrace Open Source.  I am curious to learn what will follow after the PST.

Dear Madams and Sirs! I have heard that you are going to write a documentation for the Microsoft Outlook Fileformat pst. If there is already a beta version available and you are allowed to send it to my email address I would be pleased if you could do so. Moreover, I want to ask you a question regarding the Outlook Graphicals User Interface. Do you know if you have any design patents on the outlook surface which does not allow third party people to include it in there own programmed email client program? Thanks a lot. Best Regards, Klaus

Klaus, PST: No beta - haven't seen the docs yet myself. Patents: Not gonna attempt to answer that. My advice? Retain a patent lawyer and ask them. Steve

Hi, Any idea why outlook 2010 disables all header only functionality in a non-exchange profiles (e.g pst based) - unlike previous versions of outlook. If I have a header only item in the inbox, I can't mark it for download since the buttons are disabled in the server section of the send/receive tab. Rodi
