Modifying the frequency and threshold of Exchange MP disk monitoring
I want to highlight an issue with the Exchange 2007 Management Pack (MP) in terms of disk monitoring that we see every now and then. Essentially the MP looks at all disks and generates alerts if any of the disks are low on space. The only problem is that there's no alert suppression and it runs this check every 60 seconds. This is not ideal to say the least, and we’ve seen a significant number of alerts generated at some customers.
If you run into this issue and are looking for a way to mitigate it, here's how:
1. Scope the console to Ex.Common and All_Servers_Installation.
2. Go to the rules section and search for “disk”.
3. Override the sampling frequency (the default is 60 seconds, which is probably too frequent).
4. Go to the monitors section and expand “Disk Space” under the Ex.Common class. There you can override the threshold, etc.
This will cause the alerts to be generated less frequently. Another alternative would be to use the Base OS MP for disk monitoring and disable the rules in the Exchange 2007 MP.
Hope this helps,
