VS2003 SP1 is live on the web and off to manufacturing

This one certainly covered a bunch of ground, people and calendar time. Special thanks to Natalia and Michael from DDCPX QA for outstanding performance and diligence in their respective areas. PMs, QA and Devs on all product team were instrumental in helping us ship a release that is demonstrably more stable to our customers.

I also want to offer a huge thank you to customers that actively participated in the beta program earlier this year. Your feedback and work exercising the included fixes were invaluable.

We held it a bit longer than planned for very good reasons and those customer that continue to rely on the VS 2003 can continue working with an even better tool. There have been many lessons learned which will be put to good use improving DDCPX processes and practices. Thanks again to all customers who participated in the beta or got feedback to us through other channels.

The fix list KB article (918007) is not yet available on the web and we’re working to get that published as soon as possible. In the meantime here are links to the patch and release notes.

Regards,

Lee Coward

Visual Studio 2003 SP1 Program Manager

Congrats on getting the service pack finished and available to us.  Thanks.

Could you please paste the contents of the KB article in a blog so that we can actually see what the fixes are?  The community has been asking for this list for many months now, and it would be nice to actually see its contents.

Just installed SP1 but I'm disappointed to note that it doesn't fix the "disappearing controls" problem (KB 842706). Does anybody know why? A hotfix has been available for this problem since April. Did it, as some allege, just not work?

Is there a workaround for those who installed the beta as it won't install otherwise.

Covering a number of posted questions here --

KB 842706 missing from the SP: Yes and sorry, it looks like this one was missed. It was categorized in such a way that it did not appear in the list of hotfixes to include and will need to be re-issued targetting the Service Pack.

Installing over the beta: Installing over the beta is not supported. You'll need to uninstall VS2003 and re-install the base product before applying the Service Pack.

MicrosoftUpdate: There are no plans to offer this Service Pack on MicrosoftUpdate.

Error 1334: This is an odd one that we have not seen in any setup testing for VS2003SP1 and generally points to a problem with a cab file within the setup. Could you describe your installation and environment at the time you see the error? It's possible that your download was corrupted in some way.

I am installing it on an HP NX9600 laptop which is running XP Pro.  I have tried multiple downloads and a cd copy of the installation file, which was used on another laptop, so a corrupted file is not likely.

    Larry,

That sounds like a general installer problem (not specific to VS). Try some of the steps listed in this post:
