After-Market Solutions
What are After-Market Solutions for Developer products?
As Russ explained in the first post, one of the ways our team is helping you get the most value out of our products is by producing after-market solutions for those products.
When you run into difficulties with one of our products, sometimes hotfixes may be insufficient to help you with the issue. Other alternatives like service packs or product upgrades can be expensive or untimely or even infeasible in some cases. So, what do you do in those cases? You either tolerate the pain or look for a tool or utility on the web that can help you with that issue. That’s where we come in. We want to help ease your pain by providing solutions for problems for which hotfixes and service packs don’t make sense.
We are starting this effort to provide after-market solutions across all Developer Division products at Microsoft. This includes, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, ASP.Net, CLR and various other products that originate from the division.
What are some examples of after-market solutions?
To put this more concretely, here are some types of after-market solutions that can make your life easier when you use Microsoft’s developer products:
- Power Toys
- SDKs and samples
- Diagnostic tools
- Product extensions that help with your productivity
How can you help us help you?
Tell us what’s causing you pain when you use our products. We want to fully understand and appreciate your pain so that we can do a better job of providing you solutions. There are several feedback channels available to give us your input:
- Product Feedback Center aka Ladybug
- Post your comments here
- Contact us at ddcpxblg@microsoft.com
We also need your input on some of the solutions we are thinking about. We want to know if you have experienced similar problems, how you worked around those and what you think about the solution we are looking into. Your feedback will help us decide whether it is worthwhile to address a particular problem and if we are on the right track for addressing it. Later we will post a couple of solutions we are looking into and seek some feedback from you.
