A new marketing ploy?
A reply to a thread on slashdot points to my previous post and says that it sounds like “a new marketing ploy.” This really makes me sad because it isn't at all. Before I came to Microsoft, my favorite software application was Visual C++ (and that was version 1.0...) and it still is. And if I was working outside of Microsoft, the Express SKU releases would be big news for me and I'd jump on it right away.
I don't know too much about marketing (never really cared much for that side of things) but I am a big fan of Visual C++ and have been for more than 10 years. I'm really sorry that the way I commuinicate that comes across as marketing..

Don't fret it. That Slashdot post didn't even get modded up, so nobody would have seen it if you didn't link to it ;)
Its just silly to label someone as a marketing drone just because they are excited about their products. And they know it. Every new point release of Linux/Mozilla/Firefox gets its own story post on the front page of Slashdot. And that's fine, they are excited about their products and want to share the excitement. - Anonymous

It looks like Dan isn't the only one who was complaining about the Express download implementation. It looks like the setup folks are listening and have added the ability to manually download the Express SKU bits. For C++, the url is:

If it came from /. you need to take it with a grain of salt.. that's full of unix nerds that bash Microsoft now, just clearly out of habit.. they may not even mean to, but just can't help themselves.. :-)
