Is Windows Forms Technology Dead in Visual Studio 2008?

Answer: Not at all, however, the above question leads to this follow-on question: How do all of these UX technologies like Windows Forms, Windows Presentation Foundation, XBAP, and Silverlight fit together?

With Visual Studio 2008, the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) designers are greatly improved over the "cider" designer shipped for Visual Studio 2005, however, there are still (for now) scenarios where Windows Forms is the appropriate choice for a client-application such as a LOB application. The web site WindowsClient.net is a great resource to help answer these questions.

A new white paper written by David Chappell was just released on WindowsClient.net here that provides an excellent overview of WPF. Just as important, at about page 30 the white paper discusses the different UX technologies listed above and explains how they fit together when deciding which UX technology to use for a scenario. Highly recommended reading.
