Time for a refresh!

Some of you may have noticed… but I haven't posted in quite some time. I actually have a few really exciting reasons for that.

The first, and probably most exciting reason for that is that I've upgraded my work laptop to Windows 8. I've moved away from dual booting windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Based on my experience so far with Windows 8, this is going to make my blogging life a whole lot easier – and that's something that hopefully we can all benefit from. In doing so, I've also taken the opportunity to refresh all of my lab machines, and take them all up to the latest Cumulative update. As of this posting that was the June 2012 Cumulative update. That also gave me an opportunity to perform a little quality assurance on my scripts – the ones I've posted and some that I'm still working on. Yes I found some bugs. The good news is, nothing accessible to the public was impacted – but I did find some great opportunities for improvement.

The second reason I haven't been around is because, as some of you may have heard, Microsoft will soon be releasing a new version of the SharePoint family. You can download the SharePoint Server 2013 Preview or the SharePoint Foundation 2013 Preview today. If you're a fan of SharePoint, then you're in for a real treat. So far, my experience with SharePoint Server 2013 has been limited, but flawless nonetheless. With every new product release, Microsoft employees scramble furiously trying to stay on top of all the latest news. This helps prepare us for the questions that our colleagues, customers, friends, family, acquaintances and the general public may have about the new product. Hopefully the time I've spent away, learning SharePoint, can benefit anyone visiting my blog.

The great news now is that I have all of the tools I need to resume blogging. My laptop is up to the latest and greatest (at least for a few years), my lab environments are bug-free (until I introduce some bugs), and we've got plenty of new topics to blog about with the release of a brand new product on the horizon.
