Calling Windows Phone Users In NYC! GroupMe Testers Needed On 2/16/2012
GroupMe is a group-texting app popular on mobile devices. It lets you create ‘groups’ and then start sending text messages back and forth to everyone in the group.
This is REALLY useful if you have a group of folks going out for an evening, or traveling together to an event/conference/etc. It enables everyone in the group to instantly stay in touch with what is virtually a private chat room.
The beauty of GroupMe is that it can work inside of an app, or via plain old SMS text messages to/from a single group phone number.
GroupMe was founded right here in New York City! From their site:
“GroupMe is the best way to chat with everyone you know. It's absolutely free, whether you're talking to a group of friends, or texting with one person. Best of all, it works on nearly every phone, via push or SMS. With GroupMe, it's easy to reach anyone, anytime, anywhere.
GroupMe was founded by Jared Hecht and Steve Martocci in the Summer of 2010, inspired by a project conceived at the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon. ”
A GroupMe app was introduced for Windows Phone last July in the Marketplace as a “preview”. Since then, GroupMe was acquired by Skype, which is part of Microsoft… making GroupMe also now a part of Microsoft.
In December, GroupMe announced via Twitter that a new version of the app would be coming out soon.
I just got word via WPCentral.com that GroupMe is looking for now looking for Windows Phone testers in NYC to help out on February 16, 2012 for their new app. The GroupMe folks also posted their request for WP7 testers on Twitter.
I’d love to see this new improved app in the Marketplace soon. Since there are probably a lot of NYC folks reading this blog who use Windows Phone, I figured I’d share this here too. Help GroupMe out by signing up for their test below…
