It’s probably one of the most common questions I get asked so I thought I would quickly list them down and what they do.

Port TCP/UDP Service Mandatory
25 TCP SMTP Yes, email transport
80 TCP HTTP No – used only for redirection to HTTPS, but useful for usability
443 TCP HTTPS Yes – supports Remote Web Workplace, OWA, Exchange ActiveSync (Mobile), and Outlook Anywhere
987 TCP HTTPS published WSS Yes - Publishes Windows SharePoint Services
1723 TCP VPN No – optional if VPN is configured
