EHI Live wrap-up day 1: Getting to grips with patient data

The UK’s leading minds in healthcare converged on Birmingham on 5 Nov. for the start of EHI Live 2013. There were panel talks and case studies – not to mention demos and giveaways. There were lots of big ideas being discussed at the show, but much of the conversation boiled down to finding ways to do more with patient data.

  • Tim Kelsey, National Director for Patients and Information in the National Health Service, talked about the importance of data transparency in healthcare, and announcing that patients will have full access to their records from 2015.
  • HANDI’s Ewan Davis talked about how patient-reported health data could one day change the doctor-patient relationship.
  • OCSL’s Sarah Kennedy shared the story of how having access to patient data at the point of care is empowering clinicians at Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
  • Microsoft’s Dave Coplin discussed how trusts could better spot trends in patient care if they were able to examine patient data in aggregate.

Of course, that’s just day 1There’s still plenty more to come on the second day of EHI Live. For example:

We hope to see you at stand B60 in NEC Hall 1 during day 2 of EHI Live 2013!
