Forcing Windows 8.1 update through the Store app

Some people have had issues getting the Windows 8.1 update to show in the Store. There is an easy way to force the Store to update.

Goto Run (WIN+R) type in: "ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade" (no quotes)

You can then verify progress by then running (Win+R) "ms-windows-store:InstallProgress" (no quotes)

Still can't download.  Keep getting following message no matter what account I use:  "You need to use an account with Administrator privileges to install Windows 8.1, try logging in with the user account of an administrator of this computer and trying the update again."  Help please.

Larryl...Get your admin rights and upgrade, you can't do this on a restricted acccount. You must be logged on as an admin. Read and comprehend my friend, sometimes the answer is right in front of you.

work great. You have to be up2date with your win8 updates, then only you can force to upgrade win 8.1. If you wait for couple of days, it will anyway prompt you to upgrade to 8.1
