BYOD receives businesses backing
The rise of the tablet and other mobile devices is changing the way that organisations work, and leading to a boom in bring your own device (BYOD) schemes.
Organisations are realising that, not only can the practice bring about more efficient and connected ways of working, but it can also bring down overheads and control costs - another key concern in the current economic environment.
The recent Dimension Data 2013 Global UCC Study carried out by Ovum found that around four in ten large organisations are strongly considering adopting unified communications applications as a premise-based, but managed, service, over the next three years.
Furthermore, firms are also in support of employee-owned smartphones and tablets being brought into the workplace, with six in ten companies in favour of this and one in five even supporting BYOD programmes including devices that have not been officially vetted, despite the potential security risks.
There is no denying that the BYOD bandwagon is on a roll, and for companies that adopt a safe and reasonable approach to such programmes and keep a close eye on security, it could provide a springboard to reduce overall costs and boost profitability.
