Announcement: Windows Management Framework 3.0 - CTP #1

It’s my pleasure to announce that Community Technology Preview (CTP) #1 of Windows Management Framework v3.0 is now available for download and to be installed on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. Windows Management Framework v3.0 comes with a lot of new features and enhancements in WMI and WinRM in addition to Windows PowerShell v3.0

Windows PowerShell 3.0
Some of the new features in Windows PowerShell 3.0 include:

  • Workflows
  • Robust Sessions
  • Scheduled Jobs
  • Delegated Administration
  • Simplified Language Syntax
  • Cmdlet Discovery
  • Show-Command
  • Windows PowerShell Web Service

WMI
WMI in Windows Management Framework 3.0 CTP1 introduces:

  • A new provider development model
  • A new MI Client API to perform standard CIM operations.
  • The ability to write Windows PowerShell cmdlets in native code

WinRM
With Windows Management Framework 3.0 CTP1:

  • Connections are more robust
  • Connections are more resilient
