Microsoft Reaches Definitive Agreement to Acquire StorSimple

Interesting news on the Azure Storage front.  StorSimple created an appliance that you can drop into your datacenter and makes Azure cloud storage look just like storage in your own datacenter.  It also provides a local cache for files that are more frequently used so they are more quickly available.  Apparently, we liked it so much we are buying the company :)  At about $10K/month for 100 TB of storage (see pricing calculator for details), and only paying for what you use, Azure cloud storage has a TCO that is tough to beat and is worth a look.  The StorSimple appliance makes it even easier to use.

quick question should we expect this capability to be built in to windows storage server 201x, or will this always remain an appliance?  Either way this is pretty cool.

Microsoft hasn't completed the acquisition, so hard to say where this may lead in the future.  There are many interesting points of synergy between Windows Azure and Windows Server today, including Windows Azure Online backup: www.windowsazure.com/.../online-backup
