Twitter Ruminations
My team and I have been mulling over our experiences with Twitter. Some of us have individual (JaAG) as well as the team account (MSDynamicsCRM). And we have been pinging merrily away looking for some silver lining to the work necessary to feed and maintain the experience.
Jeff Sandquist captured some of our thoughts when he recently said:
“I’ve recently removed myself from the “AutoFollow” drug on Twitter, because a choice in enabling this, I was following a little over a 1000 people. Ridiculous. For the last few days, I’ve spent about 15 minutes each day un-following accounts and whittling down the number of people that I follow.
I am now down to about 300+ and should be complete with this penance soon. My goal when this is done is to increase the quality of the folks I follow and begin following folks in the following camps:
- Friends/co-workers
- Interesting customers (not necessarily folks in our camp, but folks I hope that will be someday)
- A limited number of Industry insiders/Press
…
I do wish that Twitter had a way to automatically decline a follow to anyone who labels themselves as a Social Media Consultant or Real Estate Expert. They are the modern spam and some would say a cancer of twitter.”
I’ve found that I can quickly scan my 200 or so folks that I’m following for seeds to my next blog or social software experience. But lately I’ve been getting a lot of these messages from the Twitter peeps.
Twitter is continuing to grow and I’m guessing a rate that they had not expected. Facebook has had those problems on and off for a long time now too. It’s time for some new server farms I’m guessing.

TweetDeck makes using twitter that much more efficient. I've also found it useful to add myself to directories like www.wefollow.com to find credible tweeters not just those looking to spam or promote their business.Anonymous
