DeVaris went to school at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. While there he held the very coveted position of Research Programmer, a position usually reserved for grad/PhD students, as an undergrad! In that role he did extensive research across multiple areas of computer science - kernel optimization, security, networking, high performance computing. In his first role at Microsoft, he was a systems engineer for Windows Live Hotmail where he supported the largest installation of Windows/SQL Server in the world! In his time with the MSN team, he pushed for standardization of code and contributed libraries for the group to code against.

I attended THE greatest public institution of higher learning, THE University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, majoring in math and computer science. I walked on to the football team and proceed to blow my knee, so it’s been academics full steam since then. I’ve done a lot of research in the fields of security ,networks, and high performance computing. I’m probably the only computer science major you’ll meet that’s never seen Star Wars/Trek, Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter. Oh and I’ve never taken an interest in World of Warcraft and Everquest. I interned and worked full time for the last 16 months in Hotmail, er umm…. Windows Live Hotmail aka Global Foundation Services as a System Engineer. Funny, I didn’t want to be an SDE but I spent most of my days writing code.

In my down time, I am world renowned DJ Fury. I have a Sirius Satellite radio show that airs Friday and Saturday nights *shameless plug*. I also am a semi-pro bowler. I coach competitive youth basketball and high school football. I also ran a non-profit called Got G.A.M.E. (Gaining Aptitude in Math and Engineering) that targets disadvantaged youth and gives them optimism in majoring in the hard stuff. I do amateur comedy nights from time to time and I love to cook. Anything else you want to know, don’t hesitate to come say hi. “ DeVaris

I am really excited to have DeVaris joining the team and look forward to his drive and energy!
