Wow! We had a great turnout for our HealthVault "State of the Union" webinar on Friday --- it was super-fun to share some of the ideas we've got for getting personal health to critical mass in 2012, and making HealthVault integration the obvious choice for developers.

I think the important thing to recognize is that "health" doesn't happen in one place and with one institution. Even in great, integrated systems like GH and Kaiser, tons of care happens outside while traveling, at the gym, school or camp, deciding what to eat at a restaurant, getting second opinions or alternative care. So to get a complete picture, we really need solutions that can reach beyond the walls of any one enterprise. Now, that's hard, because the integration task is harder out in the wild where everybody has their own systems and ways of doing things. But we've made a ton of progress opening things up, from the Direct Project to policy pressure and just some great innovations that make things like measuring your own body more convenient. I think it's happening. So then what's the business? Well, that'll be different for each of us. For Microsoft, amongst other things we're using the USA as a "model house" to show the incredible ROI that is possible ... so that we can replicate that success worldwide and be part of that value chain. Hard to answer that question fully in a few sentences, and honestly I don't have all the answers anyways --- but the evidence is strong that we're on the right track!
