Wow, what an event….?
Just wrapping up our final sessions at this year’s AX Technical Conference in Bellevue, WA. This year, we introduced to our awesome community of AX customers and partners some of the new framework enhancements we’re rolling out in the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 CU7 Release which is available now. The conference participants also got a preview of the latest version, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 which is set to be available in spring 2014. Even more, developers got a chance to show case some of the work they’ve done to extend the Reporting Framework beyond the out-of-box solutions. Keep up the great work....!
Quick summary of most of the advancements in the BI Tooling…..
We’ve additionally made some significant advancements in the following areas improving Developer productivity:
- Ability to control Print Settings via X++
- Revised deployment strategies to ensure changes to parameters are reflected in the published report
- AOT Developer Workspace menu item to clear Report server cache
- New Power Shell command for deploying AX reporting extensions
- Comparison Tool support for SSRS Reports
We believe these tools along with some clear process will empower developers and increase productivity when creating your reporting solutions for AX 2012. Here’s a general guideline for developing reports:
Where possible, utilize a static view of the data set when working on the report designs in VS. This will help minimize data execution time and allow you to fuzz test your designs in various languages using the built-in VS Tooling. The Preview feature is a powerful tool that will dramatically increase your productivity when crafting your report designs. Please, continue lifting the bar on reports in an ERP Application.
I’m really excited to be presenting during Convergence 2014 in Atlanta the first week of March. I look forward to seeing the new solutions you create for your customers using the Dynamics AX Reporting framework.
