SQLServer 2005 SP2 CTP
SQL Server 2005 SP2 CTP is here! You can find out the details here: www.microsoft.com/sql/ctp.mspx. I'm super excited about this SP – I know I know you're thinking this guy needs to get out more often if an SP gets him excited. When you see all the improvements we made in SP2 I'm sure you'll understand. SQL Server 2005 is an awesome product, SP2 builds on that terrific foundation cleaning up a few blemishes and adding some rich functionality. In the manageability space we've done some awesome work. For starters, the Copy Database Wizard now rocks! Try it out for yourself. Maintenance Plans now support sub-plans and each sub-plan can have its own schedule. And, Maintenance Plans support MSX/TSX so you can distribute plans out to multiple servers. We also added back the much sought after Maintenance Cleanup Task. We made some performance improvements to SMO. And my favorite improvement hits the reporting feature in Management Studio. With SP2 you can add your own reports and run them from within Management Studio. But wait, there's more! Your reports can have sub reports! Party on Wayne! Party on Garth! Can you feel my excitement? Don't delay; download the CTP for SP2 today! Send us your feedback using connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer. Give us the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm confident you're going to love the good!
BTW: I apologize for not posting in such a long time. I've been totally heads down on SP2 and working on the next release of SQL Server. I'm hoping that early next year I can start blogging about the next release. Right now it's just too early. But boy do we have some awesome stuff in store for you!
Cheers,
Dan
