How to save WMFs as JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP...

WMF is a very versatile format:

• it is vector-based, which means images resize without any loss of quality - you can blow them up to the size of a billboard if you want to
• you can separate it into layers, and change its colors
• you can use them in your documents on different color backgrounds

If you really like the way a WMF looks, but would prefer to use it in a different format, you can convert it using Picture Manager. If you have Office 2007 or 2003, you most likely have Picture Manager installed. Here's what to do:

1. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Picture Manager
2. Browse to the images you want to convert and select them
3. Go to File > Export
4. Under Export with this file format, click the dropdown and select one of the formats (TIFF, PNG, JPG, BMP...)

  Is there a way to invert/flip a WMF clip art file image? For example, MS clip art file j0297967 is a human hand. I'd like to make it a left hand rather than a right hand. When it is saved in a different format than WMF (such as jpeg or gif) it loses resolution quality. Additionally, I'm using Office XP so there is no "picture editor", only "photo editor" and when opening or saving the image, it reverses the black/white image (i.e., the transparent background becomes black, etc.).  Any ideas on how to solve these dilemmas?
