Forza Motorsport

I dropped by the Company Store a few days ago and picked up a copy of Forza Motorsport and a HD cable for the Xbox.  Let me tell you, this is the most incredible racing game I have ever seen.  Some of my favorite features:

1) As you replace components of your car, the engine and exhaust note change in a way that is really cool

2) The tracks are so detailed: in the New York track, you are actually driving through Times Square and you can point out buildings like the Virgin Megastore, etc.

3) You can adjust almost anything on your car.  This really has a huge effect.

4) Replay mode: it is almost as fun to watch replays of your races as to actually race them!

If you like racing sims, run, don't walk, to pick up Forza Motorsport.  You'll be glad you did.

I suspect that the ability to "point out" buildings is intentional in-game advertising. (http://industries.bnet.com/search.aspx?scid=2546)

I'm very supportive of this practice as it gives a bit of realism to the game and funds further evolution of the games while keeping the cost of the game low.

Some games are going as far as green screening buildings to allow the space to be rented out and updated via online when you link up for multiplayer or updates. This allows additional revenue via a couple of options

    1) The ability for an advertiser to change their building fronts and billboards to coincide with a current marketing

    2) The ability to change out the building or billboard to sell to a different company.

I wonder how targeted this advertising will become? Soon you may be able to pay $10 to have a billboard remind your child to stop playing games and get back to his homework.
