Communicator 2007 R2 Release Version Numbers and Corresponding Patches
One of the most common checks that we do when troubleshooting Communicator client issues is to check whether or not you are running the latest version of Communicator client or not. A majority of the client issues that get reported are resolved by upgrading to the latest release/update of the communicator client. It is highly recommended to ensure that you have the most up-to-date version of your client before you contact Product Support.
To check the client version, navigate to "About Office Communicator" from within your client
The version number is usually on the Second line. (3.5.6907.225 in the screenshot below)
Another way to check the client version is to look at the client UCCP log and look at any of the outgoing messages. For example, look at the initial REGISTER sent from the client:

Now that you have a number, how do you know which release is actually running on the client?
Each update (updates are cumulative, thus the acronym CU may also be used) that is released by Microsoft for Office Communicator has its own version number. You can find out the version number associated with an update by looking at the related KB article and noting the version of 'Communicator.exe' in the 'File Information' section near the very end of the article.
For a quick reference I have listed the versions, release month/year and a link to the KB article of all the updates released till date for Office Communicator 2007 R2 in the table below:

There is apparently a new Communicator MSP version 3.5.6907.253 released in June 2012. The only fix may be a new security vulnerability (MS12-039). As far as I can see, the latest version is still shown as .244 (CU11) but the MS pages are not fully up to date yet.Anonymous

There is another new Communicator MSP version 3.5.6907.261 released on Tuesday, 9 October 2012. The only fix seems to be a new security vulnerability (MS12-066). The January .244 (CU11) release link above still points to the .253 release from June. The latest MSP is here: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspxAnonymous
