Entity Framework & ADO.NET Data Services to Ship with VS 2008 SP1 & .NET 3.5 SP1

It's settled! The Entity Framework (and the Entity Designer) along with ADO.NET Data Services will RTM as part of the Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5 SP1 releases!

Unfortunately, we don't have official release dates at this point, but stay tuned. You'll also want to keep an eye out for the upcoming SP1 Beta 1, which will be your next chance to check out updated bits for both of these products.

Hey Elisa, I've not heard back from my inquiries here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3093292&SiteID=1&pageid=0#3093292 or here: http://blogs.msdn.com/zowens/archive/2008/03/03/to-filestream-or-not-to-filestream-that-is-the-question.aspx#8344906 Any chance you can tell me if SP1 Beta 1 bits will allow me to access SQL 2008 FILESTREAM tables as Entities? And/or whether they'll be supported in Astoria? I asked this of Sam Drucker at the LA HHH launch event, and came away with the impression that we'd have it by now...

This is absolutely fantastic news!  Any info on when SP1 Beta 1 will be available? From Scott Gu's hints at the features coming in SP1, it looks like it's going to be a really exciting release!

I was wondering if the Entity Framework is working well with SQL Encrypted columns. I have a few columns that are encrypted using SQL Server's EncryptByPassphrase and decrypted using DecryptByPassphrase. I tryied with LINQ to SQL and it doesn't work unless you rely on a stored procedure in the method pane. If yes, could you provide a sample in this blog?

So where are we with the (upcoming) Microsoft Entity Framework? I read it was supposed to be released during the FIRST HALF OF 2008. There are only 12 months in 2008 and we're in month 7.  Which "first half" is it?  The first or the second?

The Visual Studio 2008 SP1 has ability to do EF mapping graphically. However, the only examples I see on the Web have different XML than the one generated by the VS entity framework. Does someone know of any place to get working examples of inheritance implemented in Entity Framework using Visual Studio 2008 SP1. I could only implement just one table per hierarchy ( http://www.codeproject.com/KB/architecture/LinqEntityFramework.aspx )
