Taking a look at the next Opalis release

I posted today over on the System Center Nexus site about the upcoming Opalis release and what improvements it will bring.

To quickly recap, the next release of Opalis brings two main enhancements:

  • Platform Support – we will now support the latest Windows Server platforms
  • System Center integration – new Integration Packs for Configuration Manager, Operations Manager, Virtual Machine Manager and Service Manager

The following platforms will now be supported:

Platform Client Management Server, Operator Console, Action Server
Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64)   NEW! Yes Yes
Windows Server 2008 (x64)   NEW! Yes Yes
Windows Server 2008 (x86)   NEW! Yes Yes
Windows Server 2003 SP2 (x86) Yes Yes
Windows 7   NEW! Yes  
Windows Vista Yes  
Windows XP Professional SP2 Yes  

* Note that the Windows Server Core editions are not supported for any roles

Four new Integration Packs will be made available for the remaining System Center products:

Solution Versions Supported
Configuration Manager 2007 SP2, 2007 R2 SP2, 2007 R3 (beta)
Data Protection Manager 2010
Service Manager 2010
Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2

Over the coming weeks, I will be posting a series of articles about each of these enhancements, and will be drilling into each of the new integration packs, with details on what activities are available in each of them.  I will also be posting some examples of how this now brings the whole System Center suite of products together to provide the platform for a Private Cloud or a move to leverage the Public Cloud.
