Bitlocker Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check) after Windows Image Restore and auto-unlock attempt

Question

System:

Intel NUC8i7, 32G memory
Windows 10 Pro 21H1, local user login
TPM 2.0
Secure Boot
Two SSD drives:
1 - EFI, C: (bitlocker, system drive), recovery
2 - D (not bitlocker):, E: (bitlocker, set to auto unlock), F: (bitlocker, set to auto unlock)

Scenario:

• A system image (basically drive 1), is created using "Win 7" system image tool, written to D:
• System is booted from recovery USB drive, and a system image restore is done (EFI, C:, recovery partition), no errors
• Reboot Windows, C: not encrypted, E and F locked
• C: then encrypted again
• E and F unlocked using key or password
• Then when I try to set either E or F to auto-unlock, I get a "Data error, cyclic redundancy check". (see screen shot attachment) I've scoured the system logs, and only thing I could find was in the bitlocker log, an entry for each time I would try to set auto-unlock.
• The way to recover is to turn bitlocker off for E and F, and the turn it back on to re-encrypt. Then all is well, and I can turn auto-unlock on again. Clearly, this is not an acceptable long term solution.

Has anyone seen this? Or any idea on where to look for addition error info in logs or whatever. I have been trying to get from EFS to bitlocker on and off for months, and this keeps getting in the way. Error going back to at least release 20H2.

Hi there,

Many users have stated that running the below command as admin has ended the Data (Cyclic Redundancy Check) Error.

manage-bde -autounlock -clearallkeys C:

This fixed my problem as it did in the other cases you listed.

I had done searches in Technet, MSDN, and Q&A, (although I am thoroughly confused anymore as to what is the best for problems such as these, or what is even current). I used search arguments such as "bitlocker cyclic", "bitlocker redundancy", and so on. And never came up with anything other than a near infinite list of unrelated issues. Does MS document anywhere where best/current to look for answers, for folks who are at least moderately knowledgeable?

In any case, thanks again for digging this out. Has saved me hours and hours of continued frustration.
