Not for me, i've been told that Windows in-place upgrade doesn't delete "anything" but microsoft support has been wrong and gave me wrong info about that in the past

Really frustrating as it's an issue that a lot of people have with no solution whatsoever, i've tried a very long list of solutions from multiple people and tried stuff myself but there's nothing that works

It's weird, someone with a surface device says even a clean install/factory reset didnt help them. it's across a variety of hardware

Have you got some error code during installation?
What's the detailed error message?

We have noticed some users are reporting the same issue with yours.

If the common troubleshooting doesn't help.
Some users reported manually downloading and updating Windows 10 from build 19041.329 to build 19041.388 could solve this issue.

Also, reinstalling Windows10 in repair mode maybe helpful.

Hi Jenny,

I have the same problem here and I found the error 0x8024200d inside C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log file.

I tried all methods below and none worked:

Running the Windows Update Troubleshooter;

Restarting the Windows Update service and deleting "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" and "C:\Windows\System32\catroot2";

Running System File Checker:
a) DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth -> everything Ok;
b) sfc /scannow -> problems found and corrected the first time I ran the command and everything was ok the second time I ran the command;
c) chkdsk C: /f -> everything Ok;

Downloading the update from Microsoft Update Catalog manually -> it finishes with a single message that the update couldn't be installed.

Do you know any other workarounds?

0x8024200D WU_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD The update handler did not install the update because it needs to be downloaded again.

This error sometimes appears in the log, even if the update has ultimately succeeded.

Try placing the downloaded update (.MSU file) in a simple folder, such as C:\UPDATE. Then try restarting to Windows RE by holding down the SHIFT key when you select to Restart. You should get a boot menu, from where you can find and select Command Prompt.

Once you are at this CMD Prompt, while your usual Windows is offline, you may be able to apply the update to it using DISM.

First determine if your usual Windows volume still appears on drive C: or not. Sometimes drive letters vary in this mode. You should find your C:\UPDATE C:\Windows and C:\Users folders. If these are on some other drive letter, use that letter instead of C: in the DISM command below:

DISM /Image:C:\ /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\UPDATE

hi, is there any workaround available and functionnal for this update, without having to reinstall win10 and not included in @Rafael solution ?
