Re-Connecting to samba share fails | Files stay offline although samba server is running [SOLVED :-) ]

Hi there!

I am facing an issue with samba shares. In short: Although samba server is up, the shares do not re-connect and stay offline.

My setup

  • Samba server on ubuntu
  • Win10 20H2 Client

Working Scenarios

  1. Starting up samba server; after server is up:
  2. Starting up my win10 client, logging in and voilà: My share are there, i.e. online.
  3. Making some files available offline, so that I can work "offline"

or

  1. Samba server is off
  2. Win10 client works with offline files from the shares

Failing Scenario

  1. Samba server is off
  2. Win10 Client is up and running, offline files from samba server are there.
  3. Starting up samba server, e.g., do a wake on LAN from win10 client
  4. Samba Server is up, I can ping it, logging in via SSH, ...

But, my samba shares stay offline! In explorer it looks as if samba server is still down, i.e. folders have an X, marked as unavailable.

Sometimes (don't know why?) they become online again, say after 5 minutes or so and sometimes not.

In the shell, the share is reported as OK, although it is still offline:

Get-SmbMapping
Status Local Path Remote Path
------ ---------- -----------
OK M: \\KRASS\0_pk_data

How can I trigger the re-connection to the samba share, such that the share becomes online? Pressing refresh in explorer does not help.

Is there a way I can do this in the shell?

Any comment/help is highly appreciated

Hans

    Hi Hans,

But, my samba shares stay offline! In explorer it looks as if samba server is still down, i.e. folders have an X, marked as unavailable.

It seems that samba share doesn’t get alert that the samba server is available again. Restart LanmanWorkstation service and then check the results.

    Best Regards,

    Candy
