Hi, I was wondering if anyone could assist or point in the right direction.

Using SCCM version 2010, Windows Server 2016, a month or so ago, it seems that our Windows Updates were failing to deploy to client devices. Checking across multiple logs files, it seems that the error 0x80244017 comes up everywhere but without any clarity of what this actually means.

An example of this on the WUAHandler.log file

"Failed to end search job Error 0x80244017"

The only other area I've found a different error message.

Under Deployments, under the ADR rule created, If i click on the more Details button over one of the errors, I get the following:

Error Description Same as HTTP status 401 - The requested resource requires user authentication

I've tried:

I've tried reinstalling SCCM client on the client device

deleting C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\Registry.pol, and retrying

Recreating ADR Rule

Enabling anonymous authentication on IIS

Looking on the Software center on client devices, checking the Updates section there is 0... nothing.

    Hi DanyalAfzal-3107,

It maybe the problem of communication between the Windows Update Agent and ClientWebService and SimpleAuthWebService virtual directories on the WSUS computer.

This can occur for several reasons. These include port configuration, proxy configuration, firewall issues, and network connectivity, so we could follow these factors to troubleshoot the issue.

Detailed steps could be referred to this article:
