Reposting because not sure it went thru the first time.

I had to clean out my new laptop because I could not get the Bitlocker Recovery key to work.

Could someone please provide step by step instructions for the following questions:

  1. How do I find out if I am the administrator? Steps to make sure I am the administrator.
  2. How do I find out if Bitlocker is enabled on my laptop? Steps to disable.
  3. I originally used PC mover to move my files from my old laptop to the new laptop. Will I be able to do it again since I have already used PC mover once?

Thanks for all your help everyone.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to bitlocker.

Steps to make sure I am the administrator: Open control panel, click User Accounts, then manage another account, select your account and click on Change the account type. Select Administrator and click Change Account Type.

Find out if Bitlocker is enabled on my laptop and disable:

Try run below command to check Bitlocker status on your machine and disable it:

    manage-bde -status

    manage-bde -off C:

If you have a license for PCmover, you should be able to use it again. If you encounter any issues, contact PCmover support for assistance.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

    Are you admin?

    1. Right click your account in the start menu
    2. Go to your profile settings (Accounts > Your Info)
    3. If you are an admin then it says Administrator under your account details

    Alternatively,

    1. Open Powershell terminal
    2. Run the command Get-LocalGroupMember -Name Administrators
    3. If your account is listed you are an administrator

    BitLocker:

    1. Search for Manage Bitlocker to get to the Bitlocker settings
    2. It will show you whether the drive is configured for Bitlocker and optionally to enable/disable it

I know nothing about PC Mover so I cannot answer that question. However Windows itself already supports moving your documents and whatnot if you are syncing to the cloud via MS or Windows backup. It won't reinstall apps of course. Otherwise I see no reason why you couldn't "move" your stuff again. But, again, I don't use PC Mover.
