Azure Virtual Machine GPU vCPU Quota Increase - Unable to get Quota

I have redeemed 5k credits through the Azure Startup program. I have been trying get the quota to create a simple GPU instance such T4(NC4as_T4_v3) , but I am unable to get the quota increased. I am stuck here, and I realized I am not able to create any GPU instance at all.

On the Azure Machine Learning Studio, I am not even able to raise a request. I am not sure if I am not even able to create a simple GPU instance such as T4, if this is even useful for doing some small experimentations. Can someone please help me regarding this?

    Hello @Soma Siddhartha

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q and A Forums ,

If your Azure subscription is part of a startup program (e.g., Microsoft for Startups, Azure Sponsorship, or Free Trial), there might be restrictions on requesting GPU vCPU quota increases.

    Here’s what you can do:

    1. Check Subscription Quota Eligibility:

    • Navigate to Azure Portal → Subscription → Usage + Quotas.
    • Check if GPU quotas are available for your subscription.

    2. Verify with Microsoft for Startups Support:

    • If your subscription is part of Microsoft for Startups, reach out to your program contact or support team to check if GPU quotas can be enabled.

    3. Request Quota Increase via Support Ticket:

    • In Azure Portal, go to Help + Support → Create a new support request.
    • Choose Quota Increase → Compute-VM (cores/vCPUs) per region.
    • Mention your subscription type.
    • If you receive a rejection, ask for an escalation explaining why you need GPU compute.

    4. Try a Different VM SKU or Region:

    • Some GPU SKUs may not be available under startup programs.
    • Check if an alternative SKU or region has available quotas.
    • If you’re still unable to increase the quota, contact Microsoft support for further assistance.

I hope this information helps! If it resolves your issue, please consider accepting the answer.

    Hello @Soma Siddhartha

Subscriptions provided through startup programs or with credit-based funding sometimes have extra restrictions on high-cost resources like GPU-based VMs. These subscriptions are designed to help you experiment and build proofs of concept while protecting you (and Microsoft) from incurring unexpectedly high expenses. Consequently, certain VM families—especially GPU SKUs—may have lower default quotas or even be unavailable.

    I suggest you to contact Microsoft support to request a Quota Increase Process, let me explain ;

Even if your subscription type limits GPU resources, you can still try raising a quota request for the specific GPU VM SKU (for example, NC4as_T4_v3) in your desired region:

    • Via the Azure Portal:
      1. Open the Azure Portal and navigate to Help + support.
      2. Click on + New support request.
      3. Under Issue type, select Service and subscription limits (quotas).
      4. Choose the relevant Subscription, Quota type (typically “Compute – vCPUs”), and then select the region where you want to deploy the GPU instance.
      5. In the details section, clearly explain that you are using an Azure Startup credits subscription and need additional quota for GPU instances for experimentation or project purposes.
      6. Submit the request and await confirmation from Azure support.
